Working across concrete, steel, wood, water, and found materials, Tuazon's work refuses formal purity in favor of structural honesty and political specificity. His investigations center on water as a contested resource, landscape as a site of resistance, and materiality as a form of thinking. Since 2003, his work has been presented at the Venice Biennale, Whitney Biennial, Aspen Art Museum, and Bellevue Arts Museum. Collections include MoMA New York and Centre Pompidou Paris. Currently, Tuazon presents a series of works at The Great Harvest (Daxin, Guangxi, 2026) that represent a pivotal moment in his investigation of water as material and political subject. Glass orbs that refract light and water paintings created through controlled pigment and water interaction occupy a landscape where the Zhuang have managed water systems for millennia. The works are not site-specific commissions but existing investigations that find unexpected resonance when placed in dialogue with communities whose survival depends on understanding water as both resource and ancestor.

This exhibition demonstrates the maturation of Tuazon's practice: the shift from formal interrogation to genuine cultural exchange, from questioning architecture to entering conversation with non-Western systems of knowledge. The work asks what happens when an American artist's investigation into material properties meets a community's deep understanding of ecological interdependence. In Daxin, Tuazon's insistence on water as co-author becomes not metaphor but lived necessity.
